SPARKLING ROUSSANNE EXTRA BRUT

ISENHOWER CELLARS 2015 BLANC DE BLANC SPARKLING ROUSSANNE EXTRA BRUT

Not many Sparkling Wines are made in Washington state but the ones that are are always fun.

Isenhower Cellars knows how the world is over run with Chardonnay and so for their Sparkling Wine they reached for the Roussanne grapes. Roussanne grows well in Washington and is either used as a blend with Marsenne (like in France) or on it's own. It's obviously not commonly used as a Sparkling Wine seeing as when you do a google search really only the Isenhower versions comes up.

What started as an experiment has proven to be a delicious bottle of bubbles. When you pop the cork and pour your first glass you will notice that the bubbles are delicate and tiny. The color is a deep golden yellow, think of a dark oaky chardonnay color. Once the effervesce slows and you can take a sniff of the glass you will be hit by a yeasty baked bread aroma along with a crispness like Asian pears.

This bottle of bubbles is dangerous because it is so smooth you can easily enjoy a bottle on your own (not that I would ever do that). Even though it is smooth the acid is there.

Grab a bottle and at $39.00 it's a great value for a very unique but delicious bottle of bubbles. Enjoy this Sparkling Wine with the the standard fair, great with appetizers or dessert, but best with Friends and a view of the Water is even better!
